How to Measure Your Kitchen
Draw Your Kitchen
Sketch a bird’s-eye view of your kitchen room layout. Make sure to clearly mark the locations of windows, doors, openings, structural bump-outs, and any kitchen islands.
Measure the Walls
Measure in a clockwise direction. Record the overall width and length of the space first, and then measure each individual wall section, doorway and window separately.
Windows & Doors
Measure the overall outer width of windows and doors (including casing trim). Note the height of the windows and the distance from the bottom of the window to the floor and/or the countertop.
Mark Key Features
Indicate the centerline positions for the kitchen sink and any major appliances such as fridge and range.
Ceiling Height
Measure the vertical distance from floor to ceiling and note any changes in ceiling height, ceiling beams, or drop ceilings.
Quick Tips & Checklist
- Double check dimensions in inches.
- Don't guess; measure actual built walls.
- Always measure twice to ensure accuracy.
- Include casing and trim in widths.
